Susanna grew up in a Scottish country dancing family in the Waikato, and danced through university in Hamilton, work in Auckland, and during her OE in Germany. Her introduction to SCD teaching was rather sudden, as she was asked to teach the Munich group when the tutor left unexpectedly. The highlight of that experience was teaching ‘Machine Without Horses’, in German, to a group of non-SCDers! After returning to New Zealand, she undertook teacher training and gained her full certificate in January 2010.
Susanna has taught junior dancers at New Zealand Summer School, the Lower Hutt JAM class, local primary schools and at two JAM camps, becoming the first tutor to attend a camp as a JAM and later return as a teacher! She has also taught Wellington Region adult classes and occasional club nights. She loves introducing Scottish dancing to those who have not yet discovered it, and enjoys acting as a caller at Scottish ceilidh dances.
